Basic Dust Removal: Gently sweep away surface dust with a soft-bristled brush or feather duster, avoiding rough rubbing to prevent scratching the canvas surface.
Regular Stain Cleaning: Gently wipe the canvas with a clean, soft cotton cloth or sponge that has been wrung out of excess water. For stubborn stains, add a small amount of neutral detergent to water, wipe, and then rinse with clean water. Avoid leaving the canvas wet for extended periods.
Stubborn Residue Treatment: Hardened water-based paint residue can be softened by gently applying a damp cloth before wiping. Alternatively, a dedicated water-based paint cleaner can be used; test on a small area at the edge of the canvas before applying to a larger area to ensure it will not damage the canvas. You can also gently rub stubborn stains with an eraser, being careful not to scratch the paint film.
Special Case Handling: For paintings with resin varnish, turpentine can be used to gently wipe them. After cleaning, re-varnishing is required. If there are obvious cracks in the painting, the amount of water used should be greatly reduced. Just wipe it with a dry cloth to avoid the cracks from getting wet and spreading.
