Basic Material Requirements
Linen is the preferred base material for hand-painted oil canvases. Dew-resistant linen is a high-quality choice, requiring dimensional stability, high strength, corrosion resistance, and resistance to mildew. No bleaching or dyeing is necessary to avoid damaging the canvas's durability.

Pure cotton or cotton-linen blends can also be used, depending on requirements. Synthetic fiber fabrics are not recommended for long-term hand-painted works due to their brittleness.

 

Core Processing Indicators

Mechanical and Appearance Indicators: The canvas must possess strong elasticity, clear texture, dense and thick surface, smooth and even finish, minimal pores and nodules, no cracking, and meet weather resistance and impact resistance standards.

Coating Process Parameters: For industrially produced matte hand-painted oil canvases, the clear coat thickness is 40-60μm, the base coat is 80-120μm, and the top coat is 120-180μm. The drying temperature for each coat is controlled at 100-120℃, and the calendering pressure is 40-45 tons to ensure a uniform and impermeable coating.

 

Ground Preparation Process Requirements
Ground preparation requires the following steps in sequence: stretching the canvas, applying the base coat, and brushing on the primer:

The canvas must be stretched straight and taut to ensure even tension; The base coat should be applied in multiple thin coats to seal all pores, ensuring no light transmission under light, and then sanded smooth after drying; The primer should be lightly brushed multiple times until glossy white, controlling absorbency, ultimately achieving a dry and smooth feel like eggshell. It must be completely dry before use for artwork.
